AI Policy
Tally · SpeedUI.ai LLC · last updated 24 October 2026
The short version. Every AI feature in Tally runs on your phone, using the on-device technology built into iPhone and Android. Your receipts and anything you say or type are never sent to us, to Apple's or Google's servers or to any AI company, and nothing is used to train AI models.
Where Tally uses AI
- Reading receipts — on iPhone, Apple's on-device text recognition (the Vision framework), and on Android, Google's on-device ML Kit text recognition, reads the printed text of a receipt you scan or pick from your photos.
- Understanding them — Apple's on-device language model (Apple Intelligence, through Apple's Foundation Models framework) picks out the store, date, subtotal, tax, total, line items and a category. On iPhones without Apple Intelligence, and on Android, simple rules inside the app do it instead.
- Spoken and typed expenses — when you say an expense, the phone's speech recognition turns it into text on the device; Tally requires on-device recognition and never uses Apple's or Google's speech servers. The same on-device reading then picks out the amount, store and date from what you said or typed.
What we don't do
- No cloud AI, no third-party AI services, no AI accounts or API keys.
- Your receipts, photos and voice are not uploaded, stored by us, shared or sold. Tally makes no network requests of its own.
- Your content is never used to train or improve any AI model, ours or anyone else's.
Accuracy and control
AI can misread a receipt: a faded total, a handwritten tip or an unusual layout may come out wrong. Every field Tally fills in can be edited, and the original photo is always kept so you can check it. Please review amounts before you send them to your accounting software or use them for taxes; Tally is not tax or accounting advice.
Turning it off
You can deny Microphone or Speech Recognition access in your phone's settings and still scan and type receipts. Apple Intelligence can be turned off in Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri, and Tally then uses its built-in rules.
